Juan, Willie and The Boys
by E. Ethelbert Miller
In the park we high-kicked
before throwing the ball.
We wanted to be Marichal
more than Mays — unless
we were running around
the bases. Then we wanted
our caps to fly off giving us
the speed the big boys
didn’t have. Reaching home
we were safe.
The backs of our arms
covered with dust. Our good
shirts torn but everyone laughing –
fall down silly.

At the Movies
by James Finn Garner
Sam the Ant and Miguel bought some tix
To enjoy the new “Odyssey” flick
Slipped on their Spandex
(You know how a man gets)
For a comic-book Greek-epic fix.
(Left to right) (I think) Sam Antonacci and Miguel Vargas of the White Sox enjoy a day off at the movies in downtown Chicago.

Still Waiting
by Danny Murtaugh
Certainly, I’d like to have a fellow
who hits a home run every at bat,
who strikes out every batter when he’s pitching
and who is always thinking two innings ahead.
The only trouble is
to get him to put down his beer,
come down out of the stands
and do those things.

“Joe DiMaggio’s Done It Again”
by Houndmouth
Joe DiMaggio’s done it again
Joe DiMaggio’s done it again
Clacking that bat, gone with the wind
Joe DiMaggio’s done it again
I’m going to tell you just the way I feel
Man can’t run without his heel
Watch that raggy pill split the wind
Joe DiMaggio’s done it again
Some folks thought Big Joe was done
Some just figured Joe was gone
Steps to the platter with a great big grin
Joe DiMaggio’s done it again

Gamesmanship
by Dan Campion
There’s nothing like an infield fly
To kill a rally dead,
Except signs captured on the sly—
Well, no more need be said.
